When looking into Fantasy Footballs most nagging positional starts, Defense and Special Teams, theirs really only a few ways to look into who to select not so much when. What makes a good defense of course if a teams defensive coordinator, the scheme vs. players, and the most important aspect; THEIR SCHEDULE.
This week the NFL had released their 2013 schedule and even though I was very interested in who the New York Jets open and close the season with I was very curious about our top ranked defense and their strength of schedule.
When you combined the schedule of all teams within the 2012 season, to create a strength of schedule setup up this is what we see also ranking teams from hardest to easiest SOS:
|3||New Orleans Saints||0.539||137-117-2|
|4||St. Louis Rams||0.539||137-117-2|
|6||Green Bay Packers||0.533||136-119-1|
|9||San Francisco 49ers||0.520||132-122-2|
|14||New England Patriots||0.508||130-126-0|
|17||Tampa Bay Buccaneers||0.500||127-127-2|
|19||New York Jets||0.496||127-129-0|
|24||New York Giants||0.480||123-133-0|
|28||Kansas City Chiefs||0.473||121-135-0|
|31||San Diego Chargers||0.457||117-139-0|
Now our #1 Defense and Special Teams in the Seattle Seahawks has been scheduled the #11 hardest schedule according to SOS rankings. We already loved Seattle going into 2013 and you can be sure that this definitely doesn’t help their cause but I believe it won’t play a huge factor considering how good of a defense they are. The 49ers are another highly projected ranked defense according to SAFF and their have also pulled the #9 hardest SOS rank. We will be updating our rankings over the weekend so be sure to check back during the week for a fully featured and updated DEF/ST 2013 fantasy projection rankings.
